At the time I started creating The Sacred Burden, I had a clear image in mind of what it would look like: colored swooshes here, charcoal drags there, and then pastel marks here and there.
So I thought.
Something wasn’t quite right. The outcome didn’t quite align with the vision and something had to be done.
It’s not always when you have a vision in your mind that what you want to create will ever turn out the way as planned. Not in this case it seemed. I didn’t want to scrap it and start over, no, but I had to move forward with it, and I wasn’t quite sure what needed to be done.
As soon as I had sprayed and applied a heavy coat of clear onto the piece, it finally dawned on me; I summoned the courage to destroy it with none other than the grinder.
With bated breath, I watched as the spinning wheel lightly caressed the surface and began to create these wonderful lines and shapes.
I was in awe at what was happening.
The work was becoming something I'd never created before and therefore I relaxed in knowing that what I was witnessing was something special....and beautiful.
